Alicia Tran, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today about AD | Atelier + Design, interior architecture, Tier 1 furniture, and ultra luxury design. Where does your story begin?
I founded AD | Atelier + Design in Sarasota, Florida, with a singular, uncompromising vision: to establish the region’s very first Tier 1 Ultra-Luxury Design House. As the founder and sole owner, I wanted to curate a space that completely dissolves the boundaries between art and architecture. The business operates with a distinct, dual identity: an “Atelier”, a masterfully curated gallery housing Blue-Chip Fine Art and Tier 1 & 2 global furniture, and an integrated, technical “Design Studio” executing bespoke high-end residential estates, luxury high-rise condos, and superyacht interiors.
My journey toward shaping these elevated environments began in the fine art world as an exhibiting artist, exhibiting my first gallery shows while still in high school. That passion for curation quickly scaled during my college years when I launched my own gallery, transitioning from showcasing my own works to curating exhibitions for progressive, globally recognized artists. This early entrepreneurial spirit naturally evolved into rigorous roles within formal art administration, serving as the assistant director for a contemporary art museum, directing premier contemporary and western art galleries, and executing high-stakes art brokering, including the acquisition of an original Rudolf Bauer piece from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum collection.
In 2017, I launched my independent consulting firm, translating my curatorial eye into immersive visual concepts for boutique luxury hospitality properties and elite private collectors. Driven by an obsession with how fine art behaves within a physical structure, I then spent a full decade working in architecture and interior design, mastering technical execution, spatial layout, and high-end construction. Every milestone of that multi-layered history was a necessary step toward AD | Atelier + Design, giving me the exact structural expertise, tools, and curatorial authority to bring this house to life as a love letter to everything I have mastered.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to launching a Tier 1 ultra-luxury Design House is never smooth; it requires a level of behind the scenes precision that is invisible to the casual observer. From the outside, securing exclusive partnerships with global, legacy international brands might look effortless. In reality, it is the direct result of over two decades of obsessive work, deep industry knowledge, and an uncompromising clarity of vision, manifested down to a meticulous 93-page business plan before a single door was opened.
The real challenge was ensuring that from day one, my concepts held absolute structural and artistic weight. When you cultivate a razor-sharp understanding of exactly who you are and what you are building, you create a standard that speaks for itself. Elite international manufacturers and fine artists recognize that exact dedication to the craft. We speak the same art and design language, and we naturally gravitate toward one another because we share a mutual respect for high-level curation. The process isn’t about making a loud entrance; it’s about the silent, intense discipline required to remain completely aligned with your purpose until the right global collaborators connect.

At its core, AD | Atelier + Design is a house built to completely dissolve the boundaries between fine art and physical architecture. For years, there has been a noticeable lack of Tier 1 and Tier 2 ultra-luxury quality available on the Gulf Coast. As a long-standing Architectural Digest Pro, I recognized this void and knew we were fully ready to establish a permanent solution. We are bringing the best of the best in the world directly to Sarasota so that architects, designers, builders, and discerning clients can access these premium global products and high-level designs locally, completely eliminating the need for outsourcing or navigating extreme logistical challenges.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The next five to ten years will bring a thrilling evolution as we push completely passed the era of simply “decorated” spaces and shift toward a focus on authenticity, quality living, and a deeply integrated architectural philosophy. First, we are seeing a massive demand for spaces that feel genuinely authentic and unique. Clients are fatigued by identical, mass-produced environments, which is exactly why the future of ultra-luxury interior design belongs to spaces that balance the curated gallery and the blueprint, where every single premium finish and architectural element is baked directly into the spatial planning and layout from day one.
Second, the industry is embracing a return to radical, elevated materiality. At Atelier + Design in Sarasota, we see the movement shifting toward noble, hyper-tactile materials like monolithic stones, living metals, and hand-sculpted custom plaster that age beautifully to create a timeless foundation. We are marrying these organic textures with cutting-edge technology, utilizing advanced systems for absolute precision, hyper-real communication visuals, and seamless project management software. However, we treat this technology merely as the invisible spine supporting the work.
